Carers Access to Health
The Carers Access to Health Project supports people who have a caring role, to attend health related appointments. The carer or the cared for must be over 65 years. The service can proved a sitting service whilst the carer attends an appointment and can assist the carer and/or cared for to attend appointments. This service is provided free of charge. Carers Support
Support to carers is a priority. This is provided by the 'Country Carers' group in Garstang and is available to all carers of older people living in the Garstang area.
Charity Shop
Our Charity Shops located at 15 High Street, Garstang PR3 1FA (tel 01995 606075) and Church Street, Poulton le Fydle FY6 7AP (tel 01253 899087) which offer a wide range of quality, nearly new clothing, accessories and bric-a-brac. Using our shops gives you the opportunity to find a bargain whilst helping generate income and recycle your old unwanted items by donating them to the shop.
Community Links Scheme
Our volunteers offer short term support with a view to helping older people re-engage with the local community, and offer practical support where necessary.
Community Support, Leisure and Social Activities
We employ an Outreach Officer who works in Garstang and the surrounding rural areas to identify local needs and look at ways of setting up services to meet those needs. Opportunities are available to provide a range of activities such as a social group at Hambleton Village Hall, and one at Knott End Library which both meet twice a month and a group that meets for walks once a month in the Wyre Countryside.
Coping Alone - Bereavement Support
For older people who have been bereaved in the last 12 months, this service aims to help by providing practical support and a listening ear.
Day Care Services
We offer a service for frailer older people who need support in order to remain living independently. Our services are based on individual needs and are available following an assessment by Social Services. Falls Assessment
This service addresses a key issue identified through statistics held by the NHS North Lancashire. Referrals are made only by North West Ambulance Service for those older people who have fallen and have refused to be conveyed to hospital. We offer an holistic service that seeks to avoid re-admittance to hospital and a decrease in falls.
Hospital Aftercare Scheme
This service provides support to Fylde and Wyre residents age 65 or over who have attended the Accident and Emergency Department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and been discharged home. Our staff provide in Information and Advice service and/or practical support in the home for up to three weeks. Contact the Co-ordinator on 01253 303886.
Information and Advice
Our staff and volunteers are trained to provide information on a range of topics and to give up to date fact sheets or signpost to a more relevant agency. If you require Information and Advice in Fleetwood, Thornton Cleveleys and Poulton le Fylde please telephone 01253 774127 for an appointment or drop in to 45 - 47 Lord Street, Fleetwood. Home visits are available in many circumstances. There is also a Drop-In in Garstang where older people can call in for a chat or Information and Advice on the first Tuesday of month. Age Concern Enterprises offers a range of products and services designed with the needs of the over 50's in mind.
Luncheon/Activity Club
The lunch club meet every Tuesday at the Free Methodist Church in Great Eccleston and provide a focus for older people to meet, enjoy a nutritional lunch and engage in a variety of activities. We also run a lunch club in Poulton on Thursdays.
TransAge Action
This project aims to help children and young people in the Fleetwood area, by providing older people as supportive volunteers in schools, nurseries, youth clubs and family centres. It aims to strengthen the bonds between young and old.
Wyre Seniors Forum
Established and supported by Age Concern Lancashire, the Wyre Seniors Forum is an important means of letting agencies such as the District and County Councils and Social Services know what is important for older people. If you would like to attend a meeting or become involved contact the forum co-ordinator on 01253 774126.
Wyre Volunteer Bureau
The bureau provides a matching service to assist prospective volunteers find suitable opportunities and for groups and organisations to fill their volunteer vacancies.
Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, gain new skills and increase confidence. It can also be a stepping stone back into work.
